Transcription Process
Upload Audio Files
Although many safe and secure sites exist for uploading files, we recommend mediafire, as it is safe, secure, fast and easy to use.
Go to www.mediafire.com and upload your file(s). It is as simple as that. If you feel that you will use this site more often, register as a user, it is free and easy to use.
Once you have uploaded the file, you need to email it to theoffice@thetypingpool.co.za.
You will receive notification from mediafire that your file has been sent to us.
Alternatively, you can just email the folder to theoffice@thetypingpool.co.za.
Additional Instructions and Guidelines
Please take note of the following:
All transcripts are done using MS Word using Arial (font size 12), 1 ½ (one and a half line) spacing, unless there is a special request otherwise.
Formats
Intelligent Verbatim
This is the default style of transcript which employs the transcriptionst's discretion to exclude uhms, ahs and repeated phrases, i.e. okay, right, etc. Half sentences and false starts are included.
Full Verbatim
A further option would be to transcribe your audio using full verbatim. This means that we will include everything, even background noises, emotions, half sentences, repeated phrases, etc.
It is imperative that, should you require a full and complete transcript (Full Verbatim), you indicate your preference in an email to us at theoffice@thetypingpool.co.za.
Deadlines
Turnaround time is determined by you. A shorter turnaround time is more expensive than a longer one. We even offer a “student” turnaround time of 4 weeks at a much reduced rate.
Contact Keisha at quotes@thetypingpool.co.za for more information.
Other Relevant Information
To speed up transcription and to improve the quality of the transcript, we suggest that you provide The Typing Pool with a comprehensive list of names, places, etc, mentioned by the speakers in the recording.
It would be especially helpful to receive a list of technical terms and specific vocabulary (lingo) if the subject discussed in the recording tends to be technical in nature.
Transcription of your audio files
Upon receipt of the audio, the file will be allocated to a typist who will be advised of your specific requirements and preferred format (if any) as well as the requested deadline.
Once the typist has typed the transcript or document, a proof reader will check the content of the transcript against the audio, so as to ensure that it is absolutely correct.
Only thereafter will the completed transcript be forwarded to you.
